Using RV as a vehicle for survival errors – does it really work?

RV can create a great vehicle because you have a survival with you, wherever you are going.

I spent nine years of my life, living and traveling around the camper. In many ways it was the best years of my life. My family was very close and we have to do many great things. Of course, living on the way in such a recreational vehicle, we did everything as a family. It didn’t matter if it was supposed to go to a grocery store or serve in the church.

Turning RV into a reliable vehicle with an error

One of the problems with this lifestyle was that there was no practical way to prepare for disasters. We just didn’t have a place to sell annual food. We also moved all the time and crossed the country. As a result, we could not build wrestling in one place and rely on the fact that it was approaching if something bad happened.

This does not mean that we did not try because we certainly did it. We have always had about a month of food with us, as well as many other things that would help us survive. But the biggest thing we had was that we lived in what could be considered an almost perfect vehicle.

I speak almost perfect because the campsite was quite an dissatisfied vehicle. It was definitely not something you would like to take in the field. However, annoying does not necessarily mean that you have to go in the field. There are many different ways to rule out. What’s more, not all of them do not require going to the top of the mountain. You don’t have to ride a trail that is better suitable for a donkey than something with four wheels.

What made it a great vehicle was that we had a survival with us wherever we went. If there was a serious disaster, we did not have to twist in the same sense as most people would have to. In fact, we were already thrown out and lived as if we were expelled.

This does not mean that any recreation vehicle is an ideal vehicle. There were a few things that I did to enable our car car in this way:

Water filtration

The front tank on my motorhome would only accommodate about 60 gallons. It was enough for about three days, if we were very careful with it and we took the same type of showers that they take in submarines.

For most RV, when the water ends, you are sunk unless you can fill the hose. I made a filtration system and a pump. These items would allow me to pump water from any lake, stream or puddle. I could filter it and fill my tanks. As long as I could find water, I could supplement our supplies.

Water consumption

Recreational vehicles, like our homes, use the same water source for everything, from drinking to rinsing the toilet. For this reason, I created a gray water system, so you can get more use from the same water.

Electricity

There are two electrical systems, mostly RV, 12-volt one and 120-volt. My campsite had a generator for a 120-volt system. Nevertheless, it would last so long, because it would not run away when I ran out of gas. Still, it was something that was important.

In the case of a 12-volt system, I installed solar panels on the roof, enabling the battery charging (the camping had one engine battery and two for “home”).

The two main things that operated in a 120-volt system were air conditioning and a fridge. The fridge could also escape from propane, so it would not leave if we ran out of gas on the generator. On the other hand, air conditioning would undoubtedly be.

To compensate for the exhaustion of air conditioning, I built a portable, folding roof that I could erect over the roof of the campsite. This prevented the sun from shining directly on the RV roof, helping to stop it from such a hot.

Get reliable sunlight for each crisis

Propane

The only resource that could cause a serious problem when using the motorhome was propane. We needed it to cook, heated and to lead the fridge. I eliminated the propane radiator because it didn’t work well. In addition, we spent winter months in the south, where we did not always need heat. After eliminating the propane heater, we could go about six to eight weeks on the propane tank.

I also added in the necessary water installation to enable the use of the same type of propane tanks that people use on a gas grill. As long as I could find them, I would have a source of propane. For this reason, if I could find an abandoned house with a propane reservoir, I could complement my tank.

Finally, I always had a grill that I could use to cook outside. We have done it many times to avoid creating heat inside the motorhome.

Storage

As I mentioned earlier, most RV does not have enough storage to get a good food supply. Newer camping cars are built higher and a deeper “basement”, which provides more storage space. Nevertheless, mine was a senior model. Therefore, I added fiberglass storage capsules to the roof. It gave me more space for additional food.

Another thing I did was pass through the motorhome and convert every wasted space that I could find in an additional memory. In many cases, I am talking about quite small spaces, such as the space above the sofa back and under the window. I made a stand there to store musical CDs. I also added bookshelves, a cabinet drawer for my office papers, racks and other storage elements.

Is the RV Bug Out vehicle a really practical option?

When I finished my modifications, my Kotolak was a much more survival retreat than originally designed. Was it perfect? NO. However, my family and I could survive in it. We could not go to the peak I was talking about, but we could go to the campsite somewhere, and even to a wide place on the road, set up and be ready to survive.

In the case of an actual error, camping is an excellent vehicle on the worms that I saw. It is true mainly in the sense that I did not have to find a place with a shelter that you can go to. I already had shelter, so I only needed a place outside the affected area.

The fact that RV provided furniture, storage and devices made it effective. Of course, it was not a bunker, and the bullets could pass through the walls. Regardless, it was never part of my intention. Little retreat of survival is bulletproof.

Because of some personal changes in my life, I had to make some changes in my survival planning. Part of this is that I am looking for a wooded property that is far enough from my home to be able to park a travel trailer for use as isolation. In any case, while others may not use RV for their survival retreat, I think it is more than enough for me.
